Eat, drink and be merry-go-round!
York is set to follow the traditions of the first Oktoberfest staged in Munich in 1810 where the citizens were encouraged to eat, drink and be merry at the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and his princess bride. So much fun was had that an annual tradition was born…
Now the brand-new Yorktoberfest brings beer, bratwurst and all things Bavarian to York Racecourse this October! Step inside the giant marquee on the Clocktower Enclosure, fill your stein with authentic German beer, grab a tasty bite from our German-inspired food stalls and head to your table for some hearty fun with friends.
York’s own New York Oompah Brass Band will take to the stage with their thigh-slapping, foot-stomping, toe-tapping, belt-out, feel-good music. Plus acclaimed drag artist Velma Celli will add to the party with her powerhouse vocals and outrageous humour! Dancing is encouraged, as it has been for over 200 years!
The Bavarian Bar!
Our rustic Bavarian Bar will not only keep you refreshed with beer but for those who prefer not to 'hop' there will be a choice of wines, prosecco, spirits and soft drinks.
The fun of the fair!
Funfairs are an integral part of German Oktoberfests and Yorktoberfest will have its very own traditional funfair with Dodgems, Twister, Speedway and Chair-o-Plane delivering thrills (but no spills, as steins are not invited).
So get your legs into the Lederhosen or don a Dirndl - or any other fancy dress – there’s prizes to be won and lots of fun to be had at Yorktoberfest!
